Extraordinary Category Classification: O-1

The O-1 extraordinary category in science is given to highly qualified people who must have an extremely well documented evidence of their sustained national or international acclaim in their field of endeavor.

The most crucial burden is proving that the person has sustained national or international acclaim in his or her field of endeavor.  Only a person who is one of the small percentage who has risen to the very top of his or her field of endeavor qualifies for this category.  It is reserved for those with extraordinary ability.

The person must show either the receipt of a major, internationally-recognized award, such as the Nobel Prize, or at least three of the following nine forms of documentation:

  1. Receipt of nationally or internationally recognized prizes or awards for excellence in his or her field of endeavor;
  2. Membership in an association in the field which requires outstanding achievements of its members as judged by recognized national or international experts in the discipline or fields;
  3. Published material in professional or major trade publications or major media about the person concerning the person work in the field;
  4. Participation on a panel, or individually, as the judge of the work of others in the field;
  5. Scientific, scholarly, or business-related contributions of major significance in the field;
  6. Authorship of scholaraly articles in the field in professional journals or other major media;
  7. Employment in a critical or essential capacity for organization and establishments that have a distinguished reputation;
  8. High salary or other remuneration commanded by the person  for services;
  9. Other comparable evidence.
